Islam Makhachev kept his welterweight title at UFC 330 on 15 August 2026, beating Ian Machado Garry by unanimous decision at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. The judges scored it 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47, and it was his first defence of the 170lb belt he took from Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322 in November 2025.

The number that matters is 17. That is how many UFC fights in a row Makhachev has now won, one more than Anderson Silva's run of 16 between 2006 and 2012, a record that had stood for 14 years. His only professional defeat came in 2015, in his second UFC fight, and he moves to 29-1 overall and 18-1 in the Octagon.

He is also only the fifth two-division champion to defend a title successfully in both weight classes. Machado Garry drops to 17-2, but he took rounds off the most dominant fighter of the era and leaves Philadelphia with his standing at the top of the division intact.

Makhachev won the fight at the start and the finish, and that bookending decided it. He put Machado Garry on the mat with his first takedown attempt inside the opening two minutes and controlled the round from top position.

The second round brought the cleanest moment of the night: a head kick that dropped the challenger as he broke from the clinch. Machado Garry survived, and more importantly, he adjusted.

From the third round the Irishman found a rhythm with thudding body kicks and short kicks to the calf, started shutting down takedowns and did damage in close as Makhachev appeared to tire. For a spell the heavy favourite was in a genuinely competitive fight, which few had predicted.

Makhachev went back to his wrestling in the fourth and fifth. In the final round he found the takedown he needed, took the back and landed elbows and punches to close the fight out. Joe Rogan suggested afterwards that a return to lightweight could suit him, given how hard he had to work against a bigger man, while Makhachev himself claimed he had weighed 182lb in the cage.

Machado Garry had earned the shot by outpointing former champion Belal Muhammad in Qatar in November 2025. His warm build-up, in which he called Makhachev the best fighter on the planet until proven otherwise, drew criticism from Dana White among others, but his defenders had a simple answer: he went out and won rounds against the champion.

Mackenzie Dern made the first defence of her strawweight title in the co-main event, beating Gillian Robertson by unanimous decision on the same 49-46, 49-46, 48-47 scores as the headliner. Dern won the vacant belt against Virna Jandiroba at UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi in October 2025, and this was her fourth straight win.

For four rounds it was Dern's fight on the mat. She won the first convincingly and hunted a rear-naked choke in its final 30 seconds, then banked more than ten minutes of control time across the opening four rounds while Robertson spent most of the night defending submission attempts.

The fifth round is the part her next opponent will study. A visibly tired Dern lost it and finished the fight under Robertson's control, which is not how a champion wants to close a title defence. The result was never in doubt, but the gas tank question has not gone away.

Jalin Turner needed 39 seconds. Kaue Fernandes threw a spinning backfist at the wrong moment, Turner made him pay, a left hand put him down and the follow-up punches ended it. That is two first-round stoppages in a row for Turner at lightweight.

Dustin Stoltzfus, fighting in his home state of Pennsylvania for the first time, submitted Mansur Abdul-Malik with a rear-naked choke at 4:25 of the second round. He kept Abdul-Malik on the canvas for much of the first, hurt him along the fence in the second and dragged the fight back down to finish it. It is comfortably the biggest win of his career and his fourth in the UFC.

The emotional moment belonged to Edson Barboza. Esteban Ribovics crowded the veteran kicker from the first bell, stayed inside his range and landed punches until the referee stepped in at 1:32 of the second round, with Barboza's right shin already cut up from the first. Barboza then took off his gloves and laid them in the centre of the Octagon, ending a 16-year UFC career. For Ribovics, it is the biggest name on his record.

Neil Magny stopped Ramiz Brahimaj with punches at 3:20 of the second round for his 25th UFC win, which draws him level with Charles Oliveira for second on the all-time list.

Charles Johnson's week changed three days out when Jose Ochoa withdrew and newcomer Eduardo Henrique stepped in at a 130lb catchweight. Henrique was docked a point in the first round for an illegal knee to a grounded opponent, and Johnson finished him with a twister at 1:36 of the third, one of the rarest submissions in the sport.

Jeremiah Wells closed the early prelims with a technical submission via ninja choke on Myktybek Orolbay Uulu at 1:24 of the third. Chidi Njokuani, whose original opponent Geoff Neal withdrew, beat replacement Joel Alvarez 30-27, 30-27, 29-28, and Tresean Gore outpointed Vicente Luque by the same scores.

Timing looks set by the calendar. Makhachev wants to fight again before Ramadan, which points to the end of 2026 or January 2027. The other contender is the unbeaten Michael Morales, 19-0 and ranked No. 3, but he has not fought since November 2025, and he and Prates were seen arguing in the crowd in Philadelphia. Machado Garry against Morales would make an obvious title eliminator, and Rogan's lightweight idea remains a wildcard rather than a plan.

At strawweight, Zhang Weili vacated the title to move up to flyweight, so the likeliest challenger for Dern is Tatiana Suarez, who is on two straight wins. Fatima Kline, 4-0 since her return, is the outside bet. Whoever gets the call will have watched that fifth round against Robertson closely.
